TERMINOLOGY:

Throughout Yanoff and its documentation we use the following conventions:
"article" refers to a Usenet/NNTP message, "email" refers to an email/SMTP
message, "message" is generic including either/both types of messages,
"Yanoff" refers to all versions of Yanoff, "GPL Yanoff" refers to the original
open-source Yanoff, "Yanoff-" refers to the free version of the private-branch
(our) Yanoff, "Yanoff+" refers to the pay-to-use version of the private-branch
(our) Yanoff, "new Yanoff" refers to both "Yanoff-" and "Yanoff+".

WHAT ABOUT GPL AND OPEN-SOURCE?

We have obtained a license from the original author (Matthias Jordan) to
make a private branch of the original open-source to use semi-commercially.
This does not impact the original GPL project in any way (it will continue
to exist and be available for open-source activity). See manual.txt for
more details.

WHAT ARE THESE FILES?

1) readme.txt (this file): A list of very important information and warnings
about the use of this software; "must read" information.
2) newusers.txt: A quick-start guide walking a new user through the
   configuration required for basic use.
3) manual.txt: A comprehensive explanation of how everything works in Yanoff,
   including a FAQ.
4) Yf200-.zip: A bundling of the 3 documents above plus the feature-limited,
demoware (totally free) version of new Yanoff. This is essentially GPL
Yanoff with all known bugs fixed and a few new features.
5) Yf200+.exe: The installer for the "Trialware" (pay-to-keep), feature-laden
version of new Yanoff. This installs some documentation on your Windows
machine and the PC-side portion of the real-time-fulfillment (Credit Card
purchase) facility which includes a HotSync conduit and a tiny bit internet
glue. It also schedules two Palm programs to be installed on the next
   HotSync: yanoff+.prc and PocketPurchase.prc (real-time-fulfillment).
6) yf200+.sit: The non-Windows (Macintosh, Linux, etc.) bundling of the
documentation plus the two PDA programs that are installed by yf200+.exe.
There currently is not a conduit for any platforms other than Microsoft
Windows so for those users, even though real-time purchases can be
initiated on the PDA, they can never be fulfilled (i.e. do not bother
trying; use the website at http://www.PalmYanoff.com/purchase.htm).
*) PocketPurchase.prc: A "plug-in" that contains the real-time fulfillment
(Credit Card purchase) facility as well as other registration functions.
This is only required for users who desire to register or who are
registered. If this is not present on your PDA, the credit card purchase
feature is crippled but, more importantly, your registration key cannot
be recognized/validated. This is only needed by Yanoff+ (not Yanoff-)
and therefore is installed on your PDA when you run yf200+.exe. This
file is not individually available in any distribution archives and also
does not appear as a launchable file on your PDA.

Yanoff+ and Yanoff- both appear as "Yanoff" on the PDA launcher and as
"Yanoff.prc" in PDA file/DB utilities so installing one after the other
will cause the former to be overwritten. Yanoff+ may be used for 15 days
with all but a couple of features disabled (those are only for registered
users; see manual.txt for details). At expiration of the trial period,
it downgrades iteself to the same feature set as Yanoff- contains until
it is registered (i.e. you buy a key). If you are new to Yanoff, we
suggest you start with Yanoff- and, once you are familiar with how the
essential common features work, try out the expanded features of Yanoff+.
That way you won't waste any of your 15-day trial period on the initial
   basic (but substantial) learning curve.

MEMORY HOG WARNING!

Users MUST routinely use the "Purge MIDs" function because this database
grows every time the online "Poll" function is used (unless the user has
disabled it). It is never a bad idea to do a "Purge MIDs" and it can never
be run too frequently. Failure to routinely use this function is guaranteed
to waste significant amounts of RAM. See manual.txt for more details.

COMPATIBILITY WITH GPL YANOFF?

If you upgrade to new Yanoff but decide to go back to GPL Yanoff, it is very
easy to do so. Just leave everything as-is, install the old Yanoff.prc
and double-check all your preferences. There is nothing new Yanoff does
to any of the main databases that will be a problem for old Yanoff with
a single exception. Any articles installed or created by new Yanoff will
have "garbage" bodies when viewed by old Yanoff. However articles which
were created by old Yanoff (and used by new Yanoff) will still be OK for
old Yanoff. See manual.txt for more details.

COMPATIBILITY WITH JAVA CONDUIT?

Yanoff is completely compatible with the existing Java conduit BUT users of
the conduit MUST set the "Conduit" configuration set under "Poll Prefs".
If this is not set, the conduit may have a problem sending articles to Yanoff
but, more importantly, the conduit definitely will have a problem posting
articles and sending emails (they will have a single-character garbage body).
The default for this setting is to have it checked. Non-conduit (online)
users, should uncheck this setting as it enables all necessary headers
to be properly handled. Once we get around to updating the conduit, this
preference will be removed and the conduit will just "know" how to handle
new Yanoff's data format changes for the article DB. Also beware that any
new configuration options in new Yanoff will not be understood (i.e. acted
upon) by the conduit. If new Yanoff is a success, the conduit will be
upgraded in a similar manner.

WHY AN INSTALLER?

An installer is required to install the real-time-fulfillment (Credit
Card purchase) facility. It installs Yanoff+ (as Yanoff.prc) and also
PocketPurchase.prc to your PDA. It also installs the "PocketPurchase"
PC-side software and conduit which is primarily used to enable instantaneous
registration via Credit Card. We, of course, would GREATLY prefer you NOT to
use this avenue but rather purchase directly from us on our web page at
"http://www.PalmYanoff.com/purchase.htm". This is because we will then avoid
the hefty surcharge (to us, not to you) from both the Credit Card company
and the third party service. The conduit is also useful in that allows
us to "push" alerts to you. For example, when we release a new version of
Yanoff, we will have PocketPurchase send out an alert for us and the next
time your computer connects to the Internet, it will receive a private,
encrypted communication from PocketPurchase which will then be forwarded to
Yanoff through the conduit during the next HotSync which will be displayed
to you the next time you run Yanoff. Perhaps we might offer a registration
discount to people who have not yet registered or invite volunteers to
join the beta test group for the next release to those who have registered.
We realize that some of you may not be comfortable with this portion of the
PocketPurchase facility and that is why we are being up front with you about
what it is, how it works and how we may choose use it. Nothing will ever
be sent that isn't 100% related to Yanoff; we respect your privacy concerns
and do not wish to surprise you, irritate you or hide anything from you.
This is intended to be a convenience and benefit to you but if you do
not consider it so, the PocketPurchase conduit can be easily uninstalled
(see FAQ in manual.txt) and PocketPurchase.prc removed from your PDA.
